Rupnik's characters are both familiar and haunting; you'll have to think twice about whether or not you've lived next door to them. Perhaps you have. The stories are fueled by the disappointments we humans bear, and the revelations that help us live with and love each other.
This book is astonishingly good- thought-provoking stories making the mundane magical. This author can write in a way that through description can sidle straight from the ordinary and directly to the spiritual. I look forward to more books by Sara Rupnik.
I’ve long been a fan of Sara Kay Rupnik’s stories and this collection does not disappoint. Rupnik is masterful in her prose, skillfully drawing you in with her wry humour and astute observations of human nature. The women in her stories are both familiar and not, a little quirky, and so very real. These stories make you think and leave you hoping for more to come from this author.
Each of these stories--tightly crafted, funny/wise, touching without a hint of sentimentality-- are populated by women who many describe as quirky, even a little "off" at times. And yet each protagonist has, at the same time, longings and fears and ambitions that are so identifiable and real, I find myself returning to the stories again and again as one would revisit the tales of old friends. The dialogue feels overheard; it's that believable-- even as the characters and situations feel fresh and unique. I have given this collection to women friends and will keep it on my very short list of great finds to share with others.

Sara Kay Rupnik is the quintessential storyteller. Her stories tell the truth in the most provocative way.....through characters who walk on and off the page and who become our acquaintances--sometimes even our friends in the telling!
