Fascinating, exhilarating, heart pounding. Couldn't put it down. All I could think about was how this sweet little boy was forced to grow up in a world spinning out of control. Born with a great mind and high intelligence, Nate did what he had to do to survive in a war zone. The old adage " every saint has a past and every sinner has a future" applies here. This is one of the few books that truly shows real crime through a "criminal" eyes, by showing the progression of child to "thug". It's a good read that allows one to think beyond their judgements of community drug dealers. One of the things I loved most about Crime Doesn't Pay is the descriptions of an era that won't ever be told in your high school textbooks; what life was really like for a black man in Philadelphia and the roads one had to follow through availability, community and hopes of a better future.
